The average adult only uses around 10% of his or her brain. Here are 10 easy ways to uncover your inner Einstein.
- Eat breakfast. A healthy, protein-rich breakfast will fuel your brain and help jump start your daily energy levels.
- Listen to music during work. Find a genre of music that helps you focus; usually something with few lyrics so you aren’t tempted to sing along. For me it’s Pink Floyd or Jazz.
- Brainstorm for warmup. It has been proven that the brain works best when ‘warmed up’. Use your imagination or do simple math.
- Avoid sugar. Although you might benefit from a short burst of energy, sugar promotes ‘brain fog’. Try to stay away from all simple carbohydrates–white breads, pastas, and sweets.
- Exercise. Exercising has been proven to help improve cognitive function; in some instances in as short as 10 minutes. Put your runner’s high to use.
- Take a break. Studies show that taking constant breaks during periods of intense study or mental effort are much more beneficial than just one constant period of work.
- Gingko Biloba. Gingko Biloba has been used throughout Asia for hundreds of years as a way to improve memory.
- Avoid stress. Stress can dramatically hurt both your brain and your body. ‘Take a load off’ to open your mind.
- Exercise the brain. Learn new things to keep the brain sharp. Play memory games (crosswords, Sudoko, etc.), ask questions, or read a book. A ‘dormant’ brain is the enemy.
- Get plenty of sleep.Sleep is vital for every-day function and the repair of tissues. If you are lacking sleep, you will be lacking wit.
